Last night dive was unusually full of this Blotched Picarel “Spicara Maena”, you could look at every single rock and take for granted that there was at least one of these. The one on the image is either a youngster or a female, they have this very nice lime green color that darkens or changes to a more blueish tone if they become male, as this fish, like the one yesterday, are born female and some shift to male when required.

Another way to differentiate whether is a male or female is because males have a squared black dot on the side just below the dorsal fin, and with the age they get a bump on the upper part of their head.

As their skin is very reflective and I wanted to capture their nice colors perfectly,I used the strobe at full power but closed the aperture down to f/16.0 to compensate the excess of light and gain Depth of Field (DOF) and details.
