Although the Mediterrranean is not  as colorful and warm as other tropical seas it has also many hidden beauties, one of them are their corals, yes,there are corals in the Mediterranean. Todays picture is one of them a Yellow Incrusting Sea Anemone “Parazoanthus Axinellae” as their tropical cousins this soft corals create colonies of polyps,and when several thousands of  these animals get together form reefs like the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

The one in the picture are found on “protected” walls,normally in the face of a rock formation not highly exposed to the swell. As can be seen in the image they cover every single centimeter in the wall creating very nice patterns.

Aunque el Mediterráneo no es tan colorido y cálido como otros mares tropicales también tiene bellezas ocultas, una de ellas son sus corales, sí,hay corales en el Mediterráneo.La foto de hoy es uno de ellos una Anemona Incrustante Amarilla  “Parazoanthus Axinellae”, como sus primos tropicales estos corales blandos crean colonias de pólipos, y cuando varios miles de estos animales se juntan forman arrecifes, como la Gran Barrera de Coral de Australia.

Los de la imagen viven en paredes “protegidas”, normalmente en la cara de la roca menos expuesta al oleaje. Como se puede apreciar en la foto cubren cada centímetro de la pared creando unas texturas muy agradables.
